BJP rift widens in Jalpaiguri as Alok Chakraborty made to wait outside for 30 mins at Shyamal Roy’s welcome ceremony

The ongoing factionalism and conflicts within the BJP were evident once again during the welcome ceremony for the party's new district president, Shyamal Roy, in Jalpaiguri. Disgruntled party leader Alok Chakraborty arrived at the district office on Monday with a bouquet of flowers and a few supporters, but he was made to stand outside. He waited for nearly half an hour.

Alok is a former district vice president of the party. After making a series of allegations against the then-district president, Bapi Goswami, he lost his position in the party in 2023. Despite this, Alok continued working for the party and even participated in the membership drive. However, he felt humiliated when he had to wait outside for a long time at the welcome ceremony for the new district president.

When Alok finally attempted to enter, he was informed that the front entrance was crowded and that he would need to use the back door. Accordingly, he entered the party office through the back door and greeted the new district president with flowers, requesting him to "take everyone along."

Meanwhile, even before Alok could enter the office, former district president Bapi Goswami stepped outside. Though Alok and Bapi came face-to-face in the party office premises, they did not speak to each other. Instead, they continued to mock one another. While leaving the office, Alok Chakraborty, responding to a question, said, "I have requested the new district president to take everyone along."

He added, "What he chooses to do is up to him. But if he follows the instructions of certain people, he will fail. We must ensure that the party is not sold out." On the other hand, without directly naming Alok, Bapi Goswami commented about him, "I will only say one thing—he needs to stay on the party's main line. Reaching the cord line is difficult." He further remarked, "One must remember, this is the last night of cunningness."
